-
A doula is a trained, non-clinical support person who provides continuous physical, evidence-based information, emotional support and advocacy before, during, and after childbirth. Think, comfort measures, affirming you, answering your questions, and addressing your concerns.
A doula, however, is NOT a midwife or clinical professional. We do not perform cervical or any other clinical exams, prescribe medications, conduct monitoring, give medical advice or deliver babies. You can learn more here.

Doulas are often thought of for natural births, however a doula can be for any kind of birth! They are generally educated and trained to support a variety of births and understand that the nature of someone’s birth can change at a moment's notice. Whether you desire an unmedicated birth, are planning a cesarean birth, or know that pain meds are a must for you, experienced doulas are aware and informed of how to support a variety of births across various settings.
-
The great thing about doulas is they aren’t there to take the place of the people who understand you best. We are an extra source of support for you and your partner! Sometimes your partner or family members may not be aware of the appropriate questions, are unsure how to keep you comfortable, may experience white coat syndrome, or even be paralyzed with emotion because birth can be an intense experience. Our role is to help you understand (and sometimes translate), the birth process, your options, interventions, advocate with you, and to help your support partner show up for you in the ways that are most important to you. As a doula, I know that supporting you is a team effort!
-
Studies show that people who had a doula present at their labor and birth had an 8% increase in chances for a spontaneous birth, 60% decrease epidural use, almost 40% decrease chance of needing a cesarean, shorten labors by an average of 41 minutes, decreased rates of postpartum depression, increase in satisfaction of birth experience, reduce instance of preterm labor, and increase in breastfeeding rates. You can learn more about doulas here.

Anytime before your labor starts - LOL! In all seriousness, you can hire me at any time before 38 weeks gestation, however, most people interview and hire me between 28-32 weeks gestation. This gives you and me the time we need to get acquainted, for me to understand your values, set expectations, and determine what of your birth and postpartum experience is most important to you. It’s also a time for us to consider a plethora of options regarding your labor, birth, and postpartum experience, how to communicate with your provider and care team, and time to ensure as many of your questions are answered prior to the big day!
While the best time to hire me for postpartum support is during pregnancy since my schedule fills up quickly, I understand that many folks may not do so, as they have help from their immediate circles of friends and family.. What I’ve learned in my experience, is that people often underestimate the powerful postpartum transition once they get home and realize they may need more help than anticipated, especially once family and friends need to go back to work. If this is you, you can hire me while currently postpartum or as early as you desire.. -
Body Ready Method® is a comprehensive approach to supporting whole-body function during and after pregnancy. Using the core pillars of Alignment, Upper Body, Core, Pelvis, and Pelvic floor, BRM® technique provides body balancing and increased access to movements to address mobility, increase strength and stability, promote optimal fetal positioning, and decrease aches and pains throughout pregnancy, birth, and recovery.
-
I implement an evidence-based framework around movement and preparation strategies to support people in pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum. I use a holistic approach combined with education of biomechanics that feel accessible to various body types and helps you feel strong and prepared for your perinatal journey.
-
When you purchase a BRM® assessment from me, I’ll send you a questionnaire about your physical health, current lifestyle around movement, and any background that may help me understand what your needs or concerns are.
At your assessment, we’ll do a full body scan where I’ll observe your natural movements and habits, body posture, and get a feel for your body’s functioning. Based on my assessment and with consent, I may provide hands-on guidance and support as you go through several movements. After the assessment, we’ll discuss what I’ve observed, how that may help you better understand your concerns, and discuss a potential plan and movement techniques moving forward to assist you throughout the rest of your pregnancy and postpartum experience.
If you’ve purchased a package that includes multiple body balancing sessions, those sessions will take what we’ve discussed in your initial assessment and design a customized program for you to use that you can build on to support strength building, alignment, optimal positioning, reducing aches and pains, and support recovery.
The more you know,
the more confident you’ll feel.
